{"id":740,"date":"2009-10-17T12:09:24","date_gmt":"2009-10-17T12:09:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thedomesticsoundscape.com\/wordpress\/?p=740"},"modified":"2009-10-17T12:09:24","modified_gmt":"2009-10-17T12:09:24","slug":"various-buttons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thedomesticsoundscape.com\/wordpress\/?p=740","title":{"rendered":"Various Buttons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Those of you who downloaded and listened to <a href=\"http:\/\/thedomesticsoundscape.com\/wordpress\/?p=687\">my first experiment in podcasting<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/thedomesticsoundscape.com\/\/wandering-maker\/wandering-maker01-sing.alpacas-var.buttons.mp3\">The Wandering Maker<\/a> &#8211; will already be familiar with my interest in Various Buttons and my fascination with <a href=\"http:\/\/news.aol.com\/article\/thames-mudlark-button-collection\/585978\">the buttons found at the bottom of the Thames<\/a> by the Thames Mudlarks.<\/p>\n<p>I love the idea of this eclectic mix of buttons and I think it is what prompted me to buy some button-themed fabric in Wallingford&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.villagefabrics.co.uk\/\">Village Fabrics<\/a> shop last Friday, and to spend much time photographing the buttons on sale in Masons of Abingdon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2797\/4019107378_5edd8ab9b2.jpg?resize=410%2C307\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"307\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Village Fabrics was one of several material\/wool shops visited last Friday by me, Emmylou and Ruth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2630\/4018347979_a4ca98f3db.jpg?resize=410%2C307\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"307\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apparently Abingdon was once a major player in the UK&#8217;s woollen trade and I am sure I read somewhere that this grand town hall was once used as a wool exchange where fleeces and wool were traded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2775\/4018347549_3f1141441d.jpg?resize=410%2C546\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"546\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In Abingdon Ruth and Emmylou purchased actual buttons, while I photographed the buttons on sale in Masons and compared the effect of all those real buttons on the wall with the printed buttons on my fabric.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2646\/4019106690_7ec8fdc059.jpg?resize=410%2C307\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"307\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2797\/4018346037_0af60b5ae8.jpg?resize=410%2C307\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"307\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The idea is to use this fabric to line a <a href=\"http:\/\/needled.wordpress.com\/2009\/09\/26\/more-on-mauds\/\">Maud<\/a> which I have desired to make ever since a. finding some slightly moth-eaten pieces of Harris Tweed on ebay for 99p and b. seeing <a href=\"http:\/\/needled.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/09\/shepherdsplaid.jpg?w=460&amp;h=616\">this amazing photo<\/a> on <a href=\"http:\/\/needled.wordpress.com\/2009\/09\/26\/more-on-mauds\/\">Kate&#8217;s blog<\/a> of the shepherd holding a lamb in his Maud.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Those of you who downloaded and listened to my first experiment in podcasting &#8211; The Wandering Maker &#8211; will already be familiar with my interest in Various Buttons and my fascination with the buttons found at the bottom of the Thames by the Thames Mudlarks.
