Yesterday I was helping Sam with his homework. His assignment was to make an all-blue collage. I loaded up the dining room table with blue goodness; envelope interiors, old offcuts of J-cloths used in Fantastical Reality Radio Show productions, airmail stickers, tissue paper from my birthday package that Caro sent me (I save *all* the wrapping paper in this house and reuse it…) some stamps from my stamp album (I’ve had it since I was around seven but feel precious about only one or two of the stamps) and assorted blue Newspaper headlines, franking marks etc. I also provided several books on collage from the Oxford Brookes college Library and we enjoyed a quiet hour sitting and sticking and adorning and glueing. Luckily for Sam, much of the Reading Premiership football magazine is printed in blue ink, so he focussed on cutting out many football stars in their blue costumes and imposing them on an all-blue background. He packed his homework away for school before I got a chance to photograph it, but this is what I made:
Sometimes you just need to really randomly make something within very simple parameters; just to shake things up a little.
