As well as visiting SeeWoo, today I managed to finally record a sound that has been evading my recorder for a while now. At the top of the main thoroughfare from where I live into Reading town centre, there is an automatic, revolving billboard. The billboard makes an amazing sound as the slats rotate, presenting a new image every few seconds, but it is always difficult to hear this sound when you are walking on the street as there is always tonnes of traffic. When the traffic is quiet, the advertising billboard is switched off. Today I recorded the sound; see if you can hear the shuffly, cranky mechanism turning in amidst the awesome roar of the traffic.
Secondly, (Oh the joy of having ftp working again!) I can finally present Taste Sensation, the composition I made for Keele University’s conference call.
In other Sound news, the sound-diaries advent calendar has received its first comment from Sarah on today’s sound which was tinsel rustling in the Christmas decorations aisle of the 99p shop in Reading. I was overjoyed to read the comment as it echoes my own sentiments about the textural sonic qualities of tinsel! You can hear the lovely tinsel for yourself at www.sound-diaries.com/
Finally and joyously, Kate has agreed to let me use her great photo of me recording wind on the marshes in Romney for my artist page on the sound diaries project which I am very happy about as it is a lovely ‘listening’ photo and reminds me of the wondrous time spent in Sussex.
Thanks Kate!
