Autumn Light

Thank you all for your lovely words about Jenny, and for sharing your own dog stories; this has been much appreciated and has bought cheer to the cold days and the subdued atmosphere.

In other cheering news, I have been enjoying watching the light in the late afternoons on the walk between my house and Mark’s. There have been some beautiful clouds.

And the orange shades in the leaves look gorgeous against the blue sky.

I love the spectacle of a warm, light room against a cold, bright sky. Walking past the old red-brick school and seeing this the other day, I thought of ‘going-home time’ and the excitement of the school bell ringing. These memories are associated for me with a sudden transition from sleepy indoors to vivid outdoors, and to the excitement of bonfire night and fireworks that I remember from childhood and still feel.

I love how many mysterious and beautiful old buildings lurk in the quiet backstreets of Reading. What was this building in Cardigan Gardens?

This brickwork is so distinctive in Reading; patterns of pale against dark, and ornate finishings at the edgings.

I find that at twilight, luminous things glow in a most unearthly fashion.

But then this really is the time of year for bright oranges, and lurid light.

Sticks’n’String pumpkin lantern.

Gemma’s stunningly delicious and slightly luminous baked squash cheesecake.

I saw this beautiful post on Herbivore knits the other day which I enjoyed very much; it features many images of yellow things, juxtaposed with blues and greys in perfect balance.

And I have also been enjoying this by Sakurasnow. So lovely to see how all these seasonal colours can be filtered down into a palette.

I have also been enjoying the atmosphere of James Wyness’s release, figure and ground, but I shall save this up for another post, to include more weather and sounds.
