What a beautiful surprise to wake up to a white world this morning. Isn’t snow photogenic? Especially with little green leaves and buds poking through.
The lovely walk was followed by a much less sophisticated spree of snowman-building. We ended up building his’n’hers snowmen. We are wondering whether or not to open a sweepstake on when they will collapse and the nature of this catastrophe. I think the lady (on the right) will probably just cave in on the man, knocking him sideways.
The Man is of the opinion that the lady will collapse into his snowman, knocking his head off, whereupon he shall fall backwards in a heap. I think we both regret that we didn’t include a can of special brew in the composition, especially since our snowmen have appeared increasingly drunken since the time of building them. At the point of writing, this is how things are looking:
Mrs Snowlady appears to have had rather too many snowballs.
In other news we decided to pay homage to the wonderful Andy Goldsworthy. Goldsworthy’s snow works have included a piece where natural pigments inside a ball of snow melt onto paper, creating ‘snow-drawings.’ Our efforts to this end involved stuffing layers of red food colouring powder inside some snowballs and leaving them on sheets of watercolour paper to melt as they will. We could have put some of the red food colouring in the snowmen to create a gory melting effect, but I didn’t think of it until it was too late. The ground did get a bit stained, however, and looks surprisingly disturbing – though perhaps not quite in the league of that famous Fargo scene.
I also tried out some blue, liquid food colouring in a snowball.
Now the sun is shining and the effects of our snow-play shall doubtless all be revealed in good time.
