Ravelympics

The wonderful Lisa Busby of Sleeps in Oysters emailed me today via Ravelry to ask whether or not I was planning on entering the Ravelympics.

‘What is this Ravelympics?’ I wondered, and quickly went off to search the groups, forums and project posts of the wondrous Ravelry. Shortly after this, I had organised my current knitting concerns into 3 (I hope) achievable Ravelympics Projects.

I believe that one casts-on during the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics; is this when they are on the tv or when they are physically happening? I think 8pm this Friday may be the time for the casting-on… for those things already begun, they shall commence during the time of the Olympics, and hopefully, by 24th August, I shall have the following things finished.

1. WIPS wrestling: Completing the Hopscotch Socks

This wip is coming along quite nicely, but the progress is slow and while I am close to finishing the first sock, I think that entering the pair into the Ravelympics is just the kick I need with this to avoid a chronic case of SSS*.

2. WIPS wrestling, vest-vaulting and hand-dyed hurdles: The Drops Design Vest in hand-dyed paton’s 4-ply

I soooooooooooo badly want this top to be finished in time for the Naples holiday that I reckon casting it on on 8th and knitting ‘like the wind’ may be the only way. Yes I am using Addi Turbos. This is still in a giant ball, biding its time. I think Ravelympics glory was always on the cards for this yarn after the ‘Gordian Knot’ like quality of its inception.

3. Colourwork Cross Country: Swatching from Nanette Blanchard’s booklet, ‘Stranded Color Knitting.’

I have some designs planned for which a solid foundating in stranded knitting shall be required, so I want to knit through this booklet, mastering all the techniques therein. I have joined a stash-busting team for this Ravelympics effort.

In other sporting news, I am back at the gym and walking 4 miles + per day in efforts to regain my former walking powers and strength. My toes hurt less and less each day as they grow accustomed to moving in the ordiary way again. I shall think about the Ravelympics whilst in physical training, and relax after physical exercise with this concurrent bit of knit-related training and focus!

Hurrah for the Ravelympics!

*SSS – Second Sock Syndrome, whereby you just lose the motivation necessary for finishing that second sock.
