I haven’t recommenced Tatami as I had hoped to. Instead I have been organising my photographs for the contest Ysolda set up a few weeks ago. For those unfamiliar with this competition, the idea was to knit up a baby elephant from Ysolda’s Elijah pattern and then photograph it having adventures.
When I undertook this project, I thought it would be a nice little fun thing to make it easier to move. The idea was that knitting Elijah would keep me happy and distracted from the stress of placing most of my things into storage and would use up 2 skeins of grey bamboo for which I had no other purpose. It appealed to my enormous sense of fun. But as soon as Elly was finished – scruffy and bumpy as she is – I knew she would become a permanent addition to the new house and a feature of life-with-Felix-and-friends. Mark has subsequently tolerated the indignity of being covered in crawling cuddly-toys, the inconvenience of having his kitchen trashed and the disruption of having his house overrun with yarn and laughter. In truth I don’t think he’s minded.
